The Portrait

The Portrait is one of the most memorable books that I've read in the past year or so. Iain Pears writes about a tense confrontation between two former friends, an artist and an art critic, strictly in the words of the artist. In about 200 short pages he builds the tension between them to its climax using this unique style.
